The Top 10
Each of the eight business websites below – and one to avoid – were chosen based on the following criteria:
- Rankability: how commonly the site appears on page one of Google search results
- Domain Authority: the strength of the website’s domain
- Lead Generation: the ability of the site to generate leads for your business
These sites are generic – meaning any business can claim a profile and start collecting reviews, no matter what niche you’re in.
You’ll definitely want to supplement this list by adding your business to the top directories in your niche.
Google Business Profile
Claiming your Google Business Profile is crucial, especially for local businesses.
It enhances visibility on Google Search and Maps, allowing customers to easily find your location and contact details.
It offers a platform to showcase your products or services, respond to reviews, and gain insights on customer interactions, boosting your online presence and credibility.
According to a 2022 survey by BrightLocal, “87% of consumers used Google reviews to evaluate local businesses.”
Facebook Business Page
A Facebook Business Page increases your exposure to potential customers.
Not only will a Facebook business page appear high in search engines, but many people go directly to Facebook to find the products and services they need.
Facebook itself has said the “nearly 2 in 3 people on Facebook visit the page of a local business or event.”
Additionally, it facilitates direct engagement with customers, enhancing customer service, building trust, and fostering brand loyalty.
Yelp
Yelp is a bit of a double-edged sword.
The average rating for all businesses on Yelp is 3.77.
Compare that to an average rating for all businesses on Google of 4.4.
This means that Yelpers might be harsher critics or perhaps Yelp’s algorithm filters out more positive ones.
Either way, people tend to have a love/hate relationship with Yelp.
If you feel Yelp helps you get business and you’re confident you can collect great reviews, than you should definitely claim and optimize your business on Yelp.
TrustPilot
Having a Trustpilot profile allows businesses to collect and display customer reviews, enhancing credibility and trust among consumers.
73% of US consumers “agree that a good TrustPilot score makes them more likely to trust a brand.”
Trustpilot can significantly influence purchasing decisions, improve online presence, and provide valuable feedback.
Better Business Bureau
I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t the BBB old? Does it even matter anymore?”
Well, my answer is, “Yes.”
If you’re looking to collect online business reviews that consumers, especially older ones, still trust, the BBB is the way to go.
You don’t need to pay for BBB accreditation when you claim your Better Business Bureau listing.
What’s more, “BBB” or “better business bureau” is a common prediction in Google Autocomplete when you search for a business.
That’s an important indicator of consumer search patterns and how much people still rely on the BBB.
Glassdoor
While Glassdoor is employee focused, it’s on this list of top business platforms for two reasons:
- Glassdoor has a domain authority of 91 out of 100 – it ranks well on search engines
- Job seekers use Glassdoor 86% of the time to research a business before they apply
Glassdoor and Indeed (next on our list) offer perspective from the viewpoint of the employee, which can also influence consumers.
Employee reviews providing insight into company culture and workplace conditions, which are critical for attracting talent and maintaining a positive employer brand.
Indeed
Also with an impressive domain authority of 91, Indeed is often considered more important than Glassdoor for business’s due to its extensive job listing database and broader audience reach.
It offers a comprehensive platform for job seekers, combining employer reviews with job postings, which provides a holistic view of companies for potential employees.
Whether you have one employee or thousands of employees, I recommend you claim and optimize your business profile on Indeed.
SiteJabber
SiteJabber sets itself apart from other platforms by focusing on consumer protection, offering a unique blend of genuine customer feedback and scam alerts.
Its verification process ensures authenticity, fostering trust and reliability, and it provides businesses with tools to engage with reviews, enhancing customer service and reputation management.
Yellow Pages
YellowPages.com remains important for small business owners as it offers a trusted directory platform for local businesses, enhancing their visibility to potential customers.
In a 2024 survey by Statistic, 12% of consumers used YellowPages.com to conduct research on a local business.
While this pales in comparison to Google (81%), Yelp (59%), and Facebook (49%), it’s still a significant chunk.
Yellow Pages is particularly valuable for reaching local audiences, improving SEO, and providing reliable contact information, making it an essential tool for businesses targeting community-based clientele.
Beware though, Yellow Pages remains as one of the more aggressive companies who will call you and try to sell you on their paid advertising.
Consumer Affairs
I’m only listing Consumer Affairs here because I DON’T want you to claim a profile on this site.
Despite the same Statistica survey mentioned above sharing that Consumer Affairs came in at 21% , I feel this site can hurt your online reputation, more than help.
It’s not the highest regarded of customer review websites, as ratings on BBB, TrustPilot and even it’s own website are not impressive.
As well, a Truth In Advertising article points out that Consumer Affairs has been “challenged twice about its rating practices.”
The site has faced a RICO complaint and scrutiny over manipulation by its paying members.
Don’t be misled by their outstanding rating on G2: they are a paying partner.
Advantages Of Adding Your Business
- Increased Visibility – Listing on a business review site places your business in front of a larger audience.
- Improved SEO – Many of the platforms allow you to include a link to your website in your profile, so it helps improve your search engine optimization.
- Improved Online Reputation – When someone Google’s your business, it’s possible that several of your listings will rank high, which helps to bury negative search results
- Collect Positive Reviews – All of the platforms listed allow your business to be reviewed. Simply collecting 1 or 2 5-star customer comments on each platform can help your business further shine in Google search results, as those star ratings are shown in the snippets.
Disadvantages Of Adding Your Business
- Negative Reviews – Exposure on these websites means your business is open to public feedback, which can include negative reviews. These can hurt your online presence and deter potential customers.
- Time/Money Commitment – It does take time to get listed on these sites. Whether you’re doing it yourself, or paying someone else, you’ll also have a financial commitment.
- Risk of Unethical Practices – Some businesses might face unethical practices like fake or negative reviews posted by rivals. This creates a brand new problem and once you’re on these sites, it will be hard to be removed. You’ll wind up hiring us to help you suppress the negative listings.
If you’re already dealing with a lot of negative online reviews, my advice would be to NOT add your business to any of these directories until you’re able to clear up the existing problems.
Tips & Advice
Scrape vs. Manual Add
Some websites “scrape” other web directories, meaning your business will be listed on them even if you didn’t add it yourself. I recommend using the search function on each platform to see if your business is already listed. Otherwise, you run the risk of creating a duplicate listing. While duplicates aren’t the end of the world, it’s cleaner and more professional to have one listing per site.
Trustworthiness
Whenever I see a site that says “…reviews you can trust,” I feel like I can’t trust them. Sites that allow for reviews to be added easily are less valuable, in my opinion. While this can be an advantage, because you can easily add a lot of positive customer feedback using multiple email accounts, the lack of trustworthiness can mean they won’t rank as well on Google.
A Salesman May Call
You can expect to hear from a salesperson when you add your business to some of these sites. Yellow Pages, for one, has historically been very aggressive at trying to get businesses to pay for a preimum listing. I would never pay for any premium listing, unless you feel it can drive sales. If you do decide on a premium listing, limit it to 1-3 months until you know you’re getting ROI. Don’t commit to year long packages.
Free Sites vs. Paid Listings
Most of these sites allow for free listings and this can change at any time, as they change the way they operate. I don’t recommend paid listings, but see my note above under “A Salesman May Call.”
Completely Fill Out Your Listing
Fill out your listing completely. If the website gives you the opportunity to add a description or images, do it. Don’t leave any fields blank.
Be Consistent With NAP
In addition to review collection, these business listings also count as citations toward your local search results. List your business name (N), address (A), and phone number (P) the exact same way, including punctuation on every single website.
Jumpstart Your Reviews
I recommend getting 1 or 2 5-star reviews on each platform you sign up for because these stars can appear in the snippet below the listing in Google search results. This helps improve your online reputation and also helps differentiate you from competitors who haven’t taken the time to get any input from their customers.
Local Newspapers
If you’re a local business, check your local online newspaper and magazine websites, as many offer you the opportunity to claim your business. .
Plus, these websites are generally very strong, so a listing on them may rank really well in Google.
FAQ
What are business review sites?
They are online platforms where customers can browse reviews and ratings about businesses and their services or products.
Why are business review sites important?
These sites influence consumer decisions, impact online reputation, and can affect local SEO. Positive feedback can attract more customers, while negative reviews offer opportunity for improvement.
How should businesses respond to negative reviews?
Very carefully! Do it professionally and promptly. Acknowledge the issue, apologize if necessary, and offer to resolve the problem. Remember that everyone else can see how you handle it, since your interaction is online.
Can a business remove negative reviews?
Generally, businesses cannot remove negative reviews unless they violate the site’s policies. However, businesses can report fraudulent or inappropriate ones to the site for potential removal. We also offer a variety of removal services. Reach out to us if you have a negative review you want removed and we can let you know if it’s possible.
How can I get more reviews?
Businesses can encourage feedback by asking customers directly, sending follow-up emails, or using QR codes. Make the process easy for consumers and include the exact link where the review can be left. We offer review management services, if you need help.
Are paid review management services worth it?
Paid services can help you manage and respond to reviews, improving online reputation. Some softwares allow you to funnel potential negative feedback to your first, so you can address it before it hits the web. I’ve spoken with many business owners who feel paid services don’t help them get more reviews, so choose carefully.
How do business review sites affect SEO?
They can improve local search engine rankings, especially for local businesses. Positive reviews can enhance visibility and credibility in search results. Each listing is a citation, which also helps your ranking.
What should a business do about false or malicious reviews?
They should report it to the platform’s webmaster for removal. Provide evidence that the review is fraudulent or violates the site’s guidelines.
Can businesses add or update their information on review sites?
Yes. Most sites allow businesses to claim their listings and update information such as address, contact details, business hours, and photos. Look for a contact form or text chat on the website, if you need to reach out for help.
How can I monitor my business’s reputation on these sites?
Regularly checking their profiles, setting up alerts for new reviews, and using reputation management tools can help businesses stay informed about what customers are saying. Learn more about how to monitor your online reputation.
What is the most trustworthy business review site?
Google search this question and you’ll find lots of opinions on which site is the most trustworthy. Even though Yelp, Google, TrustPilot, and Better Business Bureau are generally considered reliable sources for consumer opinions, each of these platforms has flaws in their methods for collecting customer reviews. Despite this, Yelp is probably the most reliable.
What is the best business site to get reviews in?
Since Yelp, Google, TrustPilot, and BBB are the most widely known platforms, they’re also the best places for a business owner to get reviews.
Where can I find unbiased product reviews?
The best places to find unbiased product reviews are on sites such as G2, that require the reviewer to login using a LinkedIn account. Since you can’t submit feedback with any old GMAIL account, the higher bar of entry means it’s more likely the site contains an authentic experience from a real person.
Where can people review my business?
People can review your business on any of the business websites mentioned above. Once you signup for a profile on these sites, your clients can begin to provide their opinions.
What is the best way to check out a business?
The best way to check out a business is to read the customer feedback on any of the review sites where that business has a listing. Focus on the 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star reviews. Those are often the best quality. I use this method whenever I’m reading Amazon customer feedback.
Should I collect reviews on my own website?
Collecting customer reviews on your own website is a great idea because it gives you control over what you publish. Just know that savvy consumers are going to know that, too 🙂
Summary
This comprehensive list aims to provide the largest, most useful list of business review sites specifically for the U.S. market.
It was compiled by hand and involves extensive research and verification.
I recommend weighing the advantages and disadvantages of listing your business on as many of these platforms as you can.
Then create a system to collect customer reviews on the platforms that are ranking highest. My rule of thumb is to go for as many listings as you like, especially if you already have a great rating on sites like Google and Yelp.
If you need review management services, we can help. Just reach out.
Are there any sites I’ve missed? Is there any information on the list which is not accurate?
Please let me know, so I can keep this resource up to date.
